I momentarily melted down as I felt the kitchen was holding me hostage. In retaliation, I crinkled my Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook, Eleventh edition, copyright 1996. This cookbook has been falling apart for many years as it has been hole punched and placed in a three ringed binder to extend its shelf life. Feeling trapped, I helped speed along its journey to the recycling bin because my frequent cooking and baking prevents me from accomplishing other tasks on my daily to-do list.

I strive to put a homemade meal on the table most nights of the week. My daughters’ elementary school ages make this a feasible accomplishment. Over the past year, I have been attempting to replace many store bought products with homemade versions. Some have been successful, like granola bars. Others, such as Pop Tarts, are a work in progress.
So I decided that if I do spend so much time in the kitchen, I should remove the chore and bore of cooking and have some fun with documenting what I am making. I do enjoy the process of creating with food overall. I can be grateful that cooking is a luxury in our society and not a survival necessity.
