All the Whos Who of Whoville are wearing them

What I love about elementary school productions is how they incorporate as many school kids as possible.  This may mean that everyone has minimal, if any, actual speaking lines, and may just be singing in the music numbers.  And yet, the kids are not bothered by this as we as adults may be.  They are just super excited to be involved which is a lesson us grown ups can learn from!  The experience is what matters.

My previous posts describing costume creations for “Seussical the Musical” focused on the critters, such as the jungle citizens and fish.

Another group of characters from this Dr. Seuss production is, of course, The Whos!

There are 15 girls and 6 boys to represent this microscopic population.  Here is a tutorial for the hairbows created for the Who girls.

Cut a fabric rectangle measuring 18 inches by 8 inches

Fold the fabric in half width-wise, right sides together (the two shorter sides will meet).  Stitch the 3 unfinished sides together, leaving a 2-3 inch opening on the last edge.

Turn inside out

Tuck the unfinished edge under and press. Stitched the unfinished opening closed.

Cut a piece of ribbon approximately 5 inches long

Wrap the ribbon around the basted middle of the bow and slide in the elastic to the side where there is the ribbon “loop”

Very carefully turn the ribbon so the seam faces the inside towards the fabric

The hair bow is finished!
