Sweat Dreams, Sleep Tight

We spend up to one-third of our lives sleeping. Sometimes that sleep isn’t always as restful as it should be, so many people have forgotten what it feels like to be TRULY well-rested. According to an article from The National Sleep Foundation, adults between the ages of 26 and 64 need between seven to nine hours of sleep. However, it’s important to pay attention to your own individual needs by assessing how you feel after getting different amounts of sleep. I feel fantastic after sleeping 9 hours at night, but, unfortunately, that is not going to happen for me on a regular basis! Factor in my broken sleep when I’m working night shifts, and I am functioning in a zombie-like trance.

Research has shown that quality sleep is essential to good health and plays just as an important role in our wellness routine as diet and exercise. The amount and quality of sleep is linked to weight control, cardiac function, immune response, mental health, inflammation, memory, and concentration.

So….simply put, sleep is vital and restorative. We need to figure out how to get good sleep!

I love making essential oil rollers. Take a 10 ml glass bottle with a roller top, fill it with 30 to 40 drops of essential oils to address your concern, and top it off with carrier oil. Roll onto wrists, neck, and chest. They are so simple to make and yet so helpful! Here is one I make to assist my journey into dreamland. Put this one on your right big toe before bed–reflexology will tell your brain to fall asleep.

Lavender is probably one of the most know essential oils. If you want to decrease stress, induce relaxation, and fall asleep, you need lavender! Because it is calming and relaxing, Roman Chamomile can ease anxiety, irritability, and nervousness. Cedarwood is one of my favorite essential oils! I love its spiritual, calming, and grounding properties. Native American legend says that at night, the animals of the forest would come to sleep under the Cedarwood tree for protection and wake in the morning feeling recharged.
