Itch Stick Roller

The official state bird of New Hampshire is the Purple Finch. With the male on the left and the female on the right, I am inserting images of the purple finch here:

Unofficially, my state has declared that it is the mosquito as the top representative with wings. I feel it is unnecessary to provide a close up of this over-populated insect. We swat at them enough to be acutely familiar with them. We see the red bumps they leave in their aftermath.

What exactly happens with a mosquito bite? Only the female mosquito will pierce human skin with its mouthpart called a proboscis to suck up blood for a feeding while males feed off of water and nectar. Female mosquitos require a blood meal in order to produce eggs. While feeding, they inject saliva into the human skin. The reaction of the immune system of humans to proteins in the saliva is what causes the skin irritations of the mosquito bite: red raised bumps and itchiness. This is knows as “Skeeter Syndrome.”

Contact with a mosquito must be for 6 seconds or longer in order to produce a reaction. The symptoms of the itchy bumps usually last 3 to 4 days. And wow, are they annoying! And why at night do they worsen right before falling asleep?!

Combat the annoying mosquito and other insect bites with this Itch Stick Roller. I used a 5ml roller bottle here because I liked the glass design. The jojoba oil gives it a yellow hue but any carrier oil of choice would work well. I added Young Living Essential Oils of Lavender, Purification, and Peppermint first and then topped with the jojoba oil. Lavender is very calming to the skin, Tea Tree or Purification keeps the irritated skin clean, and Peppermint adds cooling properties.

You can prevent these insect bites from happening in the first place by making the Insect Repellent that I feature in a related post! This recipe really works well to keep mosquitos and other annoying bugs away. All the oils featured in the Insect Repellent and this Itch Stick Roller can be purchased together in bundle–just click HERE to order! The oils come in 15 ml sizes and 5 ml sizes. There are approximately 250 drops in the 15ml bottle, and approximately 90 drops in the 5ml size bottle so you can make several batches of the repellent and the roller. Give some out to family and friends!
