Clear, fresh skin is soooo important for all stages of life, but I feel it’s even more so during the teen years. Teens find self confidence in their appearance. We know that shouldn’t be the only thing, but we also know that this is just part of growing up. I have two daughters in this age category, and a good facial hygiene routine is imperative! I want them to use effective, naturally clean, and non-toxic products so I often “ditch and switch” one item here and there for them.
Harmful chemicals in normal every day personal care products you find on the store shelves can interfere with growing and developing teens because of “hormone disruptors.” Many chemicals, both natural and man-made, may mimic or interfere with the body’s hormones, known as the endocrine system. Called endocrine disruptors, these chemicals are linked with developmental, reproductive, brain, immune, and other problems. I encourage you to search for hormone disruptors as you shop. You’ll be amazed how many there are and how many products have them. Some common ones to look out for are BPA, Dioxins, Phthalates, Chlorine, Fluoride, and Glycol Ethers.
So here’s my swap for the moment: a face roller serum for glowing skin. Made with three of my most loved oils, it smells amazing and is easy to apply!

Bergamot is one of my most favorite oils, and I don’t think we hear about it enough! A member of the citrus family, Young Living’s Bergamot is grown in Italy and the Ivory Coast. Bergamot is beneficial to the digestive system, the skin, and provides emotional balance. Somehow, Bergamot both relaxes and uplifts the spirit. It is a common ingredient in many “Happy Rollers.” I find that I reach for it when I want some calm and also when I am looking for some joy.
This essential oil is high in monoterpenes–especially d-limonene. Monoterpenes are one of the chemical constituents found in essential oils and are composed of hydrogen and oxygen. This constituent provides antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties and has a drying/tonic effect on skin.
Tea Tree essential oil is well known for its cleansing properties. The leaves are steam distilled from plants grown in Australia. Tea Tree is beneficial to the immune, respiratory, and musculoskeletal systems. It has historically been used to heal skin wounds and other ailments.
Tea Tree is also high in monoterpenes, the highest being alpha and beta terpinenes. These provide strong antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-oxidant properties.
Grapefruit could possibly be my most used oil! It makes me so happy! I combine it with almost anything to give a little “zest” to my blends. Cold pressed from the rind, this Young Living essential oil is obtained from the fruit grown in California. Contrary to many other citrus oils, grapefruit does not cause photosensitivity. This essential oil is cleansing, uplifting, and stimulating. I like to add it as a skin brightening ingredient.

Teen Face Roller Recipe
- 10ml roller bottle
- 12 drops Grapefruit essential oil
- 12 drops Tea Tree essential oil
- 12 drops Bergamot essential oil
- Carrier oil of choice to top off
Add essential oils to the roller bottle. Top with carrier oil to fill the remainder of the bottle but leave a little room at the top. Young Living’s V-6 oil, jojoba oil, or fractionated coconut oil are great choices for this recipe. Gently push the roller ball filament into the top of the bottle being careful to avoid pressure on the ball itself. Screw on the cap and swirl gently to combine the ingredients. Apply after washing face. Enjoy!
