I came across this Lavender essential oil.
There are warning labels on this bottle of Lavender.

This is why I am so passionate about the use of high-quality oils. If you’re making the effort to purchase and use essential oils, you want to ensure they are helping your body and mind. If you’re creating a healthier lifestyle, don’t add hidden toxins back into your cells.
When I open a bottle of Young Living essential Oil, I immediately feel my chest relaxing/releasing. I notice my breath becoming deeper. Tension is released from my head. My thoughts are focused and intentional.
Why is this?

Young Living uses the first distilling only. What does that mean? Think of a tea bag: when you make a first cup of tea, the beverage is darker and has a stronger taste and smell. Take that tea bag and pour a second serving of hot water over that same bag–the tea is slightly weaker as noticed by its lighter color after brewing. Keep going with that same bag and more hot water, and the tea will become less potent with each cup.

This is the same process with essential oils. Some companies will use the plant materials over and over again resulting in a product that is bottled with less smell and decreased benefits than the one created at the first distilling. Most companies do multiple distillations and then combine the resulting oil to get an average, which they then bottle and sell to you. This is so important! Again, if you’re going to make the effort to focus on your health, choose an essential oil that will support your new habits.
Young Living is proud to set the standard for essential oil purity and authenticity by carefully monitoring the production of oils through their Seed to Seal process. From the time the seed is sourced until the oil is sealed in the bottle, Young Living applies rigorous quality controls to ensure that you are receiving essential oils exactly the way nature intended.

Circling back to the Lavender–the Swiss Army knife of essential oils. It is used for EVERYTHING.
This is the first oil developed by Young Living and is their most popular single oil.
It is also the most adulterated oil in the world.
Many companies distill their lavender for 15 minutes. However, it takes ONE AND A HALF HOURS to bring out the therapeutic compounds found in the Lavender plant. Just distilling for 15 minutes, you’re only going to smell the oil, and it will have no therapeutic benefits.
Young Living uses this longer distilling method while combining Lavenders from their 3 farms in France, Utah, and Idaho. These are farms that Young Living either owns or partners with–there is no “middle man.” This means they can be involved in every step of the Seed to Seal process described above.

Here is another important distinguishing characteristic of lavender produced by different companies to keep in mind. Young Living’s lavender plants are grown from seed only, not from clones. This is called “population” lavender. Each is unique and different. With cloned lavender the yield is greater, and profit is higher, but quality is not. It’s all exactly the same plant, so if a certain chemical constituent is high or low, it’s true across the farm.
In summary, my point is this: price points should not be the only reason to purchase an essential oil. Do your research! If two essential oils from different companies smell the same, try to find out what that is. Remind yourself why you’re using essential oils now instead of commercial and chemically laden products. Establish your health goals. We are fortunate to have access to these wonderful botanicals that we can use to improve our everyday lives.
