Succulent Pumpkin Planter

Succulents are a diverse group of plants that have adapted to arid or semi-arid environments by storing water in their leaves, stems, or roots. They are known for their unique and often striking appearance, which includes fleshy, thickened tissues that allow them to retain water. Succulents have become incredibly popular in recent years as ornamental houseplants and in gardening due to their low-maintenance nature and aesthetic appeal.

Here is a project that I have been meaning to complete for a while. Now that I have, I love it more than I thought that I would! I think it would be amazing to make a couple more in various colors and have them together on the table as a centerpiece. Real pumpkins could be used as well, instead of foam ones from a craft store. If using pumpkins from the patch, be ready to transplant the succulents to more permanent pots. The foam versions definitely have more longevity.

To make this autumnal planter, you will need: a pumpkin (real or faux), crafting knife, potting soil, succulents, and planter tray.

Start with your pumpkin and cut a small circle off the top.

Pierce drainage holes in the bottom of the pumpkin.

Fill the pumpkin with potting soil.

Have an assortment of succulent plants ready!

Replant the succulents into the pumpkin filled with potting soil.

I like to use a tray underneath the planter. Give the succulents a little bit of water. Display your new autumn decoration!
