Hand Salve with Essential Oils

Raise your dry and cracked hand if winter has not been kind to your skin!

Even though spring is almost here, my hands need help because their “reserve” is gone. Moisture is quickly lost, and it seems to take multiple applications of a product to get the dryness to subside.

This hand salve contains only 2 basic ingredients! You can make this in 5 minutes at home. Soothe your skin with olive oil and beeswax instead of irritating it further with chemicals, such as alcohols, fragrances, and dyes, that can be found in other products. Emollients, like petroleum and mineral oil, which seem beneficial at the time of their use, can also exacerbate a dry skin condition.

With the addition of essential oils, you can further nourish your hands! I added patchouli, elemi, geranium, mastrante, and bergamot.

I was never a huge fan of patchouli, but it is soooo good for the skin in several different ways: aging, dryness, blemishes, and redness are a few of the favorite ways patchouli can help. When the patchouli is combined with the beeswax and the other essential oils, its scent develops and softens. I think you will enjoy it!

Elemi goes by the nickname “Poor Man’s Frankincense.” Its woodsy aroma provides a grounding and spiritual atmosphere. Elemi is used to promote healthy skin and can also help reduce the appearance of fine lines on the face.

Geranium is known for assisting with hormonal balance, but it is a key component for healthy skin. It is a valued additive for brightening the skin. Geranium’s fresh and floral aroma is also popular in many cosmetics and perfumes.

Mastrante is a great moisturizer to help achieve healthy skin. This oil has a delicate, herbal aroma that creates a calming room at bedtime. Mastrante is soothing for the mind and the body!

Bergamot could be in my top 5 of favorite oils! A member of the citrus family, it also has notes of Earl Gray Tea. Bergamot brightens any scent, and I love combining it with spruce.

Using your favorite method, melt the beeswax with the olive oil. Today, I am using dandelion infused oil that I made several months ago. Dandelion is also wonderful for dry skin! Allow this mixture to cool slightly, and then add in the essential oils. Adjust to your preference! Pour into a glass jar or metal tin. Allow to cool completely before applying the lid.
