Gratitude and Essential Oils

I love November. It is the calm before the Christmas storm, in my opinion! It is a wonderful time to embrace some quiet when you can. While it’s always important to practice gratitude throughout the year, November is also an excellent reminder to bring us back into that daily practice.

With regular intention, our hearts and minds move towards gratefulness and away from harmful worry!

We love walking in the woods. It’s a perfect place for reflection.

Gratitude: It’s one of those things we KNOW we should practice, but sometimes, life gets hard and busy, and we just……don’t. Intentionally practicing gratitude can help change our mindset and our attitudes. Life simply flows better when your heart and mind are open and grounded with gratitude!

I have a gratitude journal. My consistency with writing ebbs and flows throughout the year. November is the month to bring me back to this amazing daily habit.

Of course, I love to pair an essential oil with my jotting down of thoughts. Some favorites to use are Spruce, Frankincense and Cedarwood and also blends like Gratitude (yup!), Grounding and Christmas Spirit.

When you’re feeling grateful, there’s no room for a negative mindset.

Do you have a gratitude journal?

Here are some gratitude prompts for the week. Grab an essential oil that relaxes you and calms your thoughts. I like to apply a drop behind my ears and then over my hearts as well. Pick a question to focus on each day!

  • What is an act of kindness someone showed you that you are grateful for?
  • I am thankful for the ability to:
  • Write three things about your spouse/partner that you are grateful for.
  • What is one thing you are grateful for about the season of life you are currently in?
  • What is something positive that happened today that you are grateful for?

Why essential oils? Our sense of smell is closely linked to the part of the brain that processes emotion and memory. Those tiny molecules from the oils can help to release emotional blocks, open up channels for giving and receiving, and bring calm to our hearts and thoughts. You can diffuse them, apply them topically, or even add them to a warm bath any time you need a boost in clarity and emotions.

Try one of these blends, use a pre-mixed blend like the ones mentioned above, or create a custom blend of your own:

  • Cozy & Grounded: 3 drops Cedarwood, 3 drops Frankincense, 2 drops Sweet Orange
  • Joyful & Lighthearted: 4 drops Grapefruit, 3 drops Bergamot, 2 drops Lavender
  • Calm & Comforting: 3 drops Chamomile, 3 drops Clary Sage, 2 drops Vanilla
